Sustainable activewear brand TALA founded by fitness entrepreneur Grace Beverley has raised £5 million from prominent investors which includes one of the early backers of leading womenswear brand Me + Em.
TALA, which was founded by Grace Beverly in 2019 and now employs 45 people, has secured the capital injection from Pembroke VCT, Venrex and Active Partners – all of which were already shareholders in the business.
The new funding is reported to support TALA’s international expansion, which starts with the US. The US is a market where brand has already seen significant interests from their consumer as well as social media engagement. TALA also also intends to explore opportunities for establishing a physical standalone high street retail presence for consumers.
Beverly, described the fundraising as “an incredibly exciting milestone in TALA’s growth”.
“TALA remains proudly women-founded & women-run – the large majority of our leadership positions and board positions are held by women, something I am immensely proud of that sets us apart from most women’s businesses,” she said.
“Just 2% of VC [venture capital] funding in the UK goes to female-founded businesses, so I don’t underestimate how statistically difficult it is to reach this stage of a business lifecycle.”
